QuoTwo’s History and Other Projects
QuoTwo wasn’t born solely out of the downfall of Quotev’s social features. It had been growing in the back of my mind long before that. I started considering building something of my own way back when Quotev removed the group search. Back then, I knew nothing about coding so I decided.. probably not a good idea. When they finally removed the social side altogether, I knew it was time. So, I built a site.
The name “QuoTwo” wasn’t mine alone. It was chosen by the community. It was something collaborative from the very beginning of the site. Even our sweet little mascot, Quinn (if you remember them, that ended up being their official name), was lovingly drawn by a co-worker when we had nothing to do. It felt like everyone contributed a little piece to what QuoTwo became.
And for something that only lived a short while, QuoTwo grew fast. Within the first week, we had over 500 active users and nearly 1,000 accounts created. There were five moderators. Two were active community members, one was me (of course), and the last two were folks I brought in from the outside to help keep the peace. (Shout out Amir again) Amir helped update the site from time to time too, and also was attempting to fix the site going offline all the time. lol.
The site was short-lived, but it made an impact. Every now and then, someone still reaches out on Reddit to say they enjoyed it, or to ask for the code for the ARG. That always makes me smile. Quotwo was a short-lived dream, but I do see it made an impact somewhere. Regardless of how small it was.
